Artists for Art and the Afa Gallery (not exactly the same, but nearly so for all practical purposes) have been around for nearly 20 years -- a long time as far as community arts organizations go. That seems to suggest that it will last awhile longer. Afa is not-for-profit in Northeastern PA comprised of artists and people-who-like-art. They run the Afa Gallery (514 Lackawanna Ave, Scranton) on a volunteer basis and keep it open Thurs Fri & Sat nearly without fail. There is a new exhibit almost every month except November, with openings on the First Friday. If you know me personally, you've probably heard me vent about various failings Afa has. Well, of course -- we all have failings. And when you've got as many things going for you as Afa does, you just want it to be bloody perfect! Well, this is a pretty good shot, and Afa has been a big boost for Scranton redevelopment and burgeoning art scene.
